ToolBook Translation System 11.5 is now available! With a new user interface, the ability to have identically-named objects in different groups, explicit support for Text Panes and other catalog objects, a Word Count feature, ToolBook 11.5, 11, 10.5, 10, 9.5, and 9.0 support, and more, this is a MUST HAVE version.

Store (and restore) ALL content from your ToolBook application in an Access database.

Multilingual Applications Made Easy

Use ToolBook Translation System (TTS) to swap field text (including formatting), button captions, question feedback, captions and body text of Text Pane catalog objects, text of Marquee, Shadowed Text Field, and Bullet catalog objects, and user properties, all based on language or another criteria such as reading level. It will even restore hotword hyperlinks and action sequences. TTS will even let you set different object positions and fonts by language. It will notify you and even fix problems like unnamed objects or ones with duplicate names. Change database sources “on the fly” if deploying natively or just build for a particular source and then publish to the web.

Streamline Development

Manage your content within the database and “rebuild” your book whenever content needs to be updated.

Special Tools

TTS has special author-level tools for creating the database based on your ToolBook file. It will validate your object names, automatically grab user properties if desired, allow you to stick with plain text if desired, and more.

Determine Translation Level of Effort

Use the new "Word Count" feature to display the number of words and number of characters (both including and not including spaces) per language source.

"Translator" Application Included

Use this special application for creating and editing your other source databases field by field, caption by caption, and definition by definition. You can even send the Translator application onto your translation team! One copy of the Translator is included with your development license. Additional copies are available for $695.

User Comments

  • I tested the following languages: Japanese, Korean, Chinese (PRC) and Thai. All worked perfectly! Everything imported back into ToolBook just fine! Since we had not been able to use ToolBook for double-byte language content, we have built up a library of other tools that we use depending on the type of courses we are building. Now we should be able to eliminate one or more of these other applications which will make up the cost savings to purchase the TTS.
  • Prior to having Content Connection, we would have a separate set of books for each language and we would spend hours copying and pasting (which leaves lots of room for error - especially when we don't speak or read the translated language).
  • We have done a lot of work with Content Connection. It has enabled us to very quickly and easily create foreign language versions of our programs. While there are some limitations and challenges that we have in many cases found a way to work around, we would not be able to afford the manpower and liability due to errors that would be required to do the translations the way that we would have to do them without the translator. Content Connection is a fantastic tool if you need to do translations.
  • We use Content Connection from Platte Canyon. Right now we use it for Portuguese and Chinese versions of our programs. It is much more than a database to swap out content. You will pay a very small price compared to what it would take for you to develop something even remotely similar in functionality, robustness, and ease of use.
  • Here is another example of how we use Content connection: Our programs are geared toward manufacturing companies, but the topics are also relevant for service companies, but require a "translation." No problem... we handle it just like a foreign translation. Extend this idea to doing "custom" versions of programs for various customer groups/types to meet specific needs and you have a very powerful tool for under $1,000.
  • TB Connection is an excellent tool that is very helpful for translating a ToolBook file. If you have to send the text out to a translator, the ability is there in TB Connection. You can also edit and change the text in the database app. Even better yet, you can set up the ToolBook application to switch languages when a user launches the app by using system books. I'd give Platte Canyon a call and someone there would be able to tell you more about it.
